Welcome to Millennial Of The Week! This is an interview series conducted by Millennial Community – we are a group of like-minded young people who support each other, talk about life as a millennial, work on projects & ideas that matter and challenge the status quo of the world we live in.
This week we are talking to Gabriele Gimbutaite. Gabriele describes herself as a life-long learner, empath and curious human being. Working for several different companies doing communication work and trying to create the circumstances where people flourish, she is a little bit of a dreamer and also an absolutely wonderful soul to be around.
Are you a member of any online communities? If so, what made you join?
I have joined a few, mostly on Facebook. The idea of collaborating with people in different fields excites me. Online and offline conversations are where real life happens.
What are – in your opinion – the most important skills a millennial needs to cultivate, and why?
Being coachable – it’s all about being open and ready to be taught. Diversify your skills!
Thinking independently – media’s conscious and unconscious manipulation can be very damaging. Question what you hear and read.
Keeping a high level of self-compassion – in end, we are not our failures or achievements alone. It’s too easy to slip into feeling you’re not doing enough in comparison to other people – complete waste of time.
How are you practicing those skills in your own life?
I’m trying to learn from wiser and older people than me. Standing next to the kindest and smartest person in the room.
Doing my own research into all the stories presented. Making my own judgement.
Slowly adopting a ‘parental relationship’ with myself – nurturing without demands.
What is your personal definition of success?
I’m not a big fan of the word ‘success’. I think it puts a lot of pressure on people’s shoulders. Being engaged with and surrounded by real people make me feel good.
What are YOU seeking help in at the moment?
Managing self-criticism and self-doubt that always stands in a way of all the good that’s coming.
What excites you about being a millennial?
Global reach and travelling possibilities. The ability to touch random people’s lives much more easily.
